After a successful trip to the 15U National Tournament in Viera, Florida, the New England Diamond Dawgs returned home and earned their second championship trophy in six days. Riding the momentum of their 15U DII National title win over the Tampa Xtreme on July 24th, the Dawg’s defeated the NE Nationals 3-1 on Thursday to capture the 15U New England AAU Regional Championship.
Kasey Carollo pitched six strong innings and allowed the Dawg’s to maintain a 2-1 lead heading into the seventh. Dan Armstrong was again clutch at the plate and knocked in a huge insurance run in the top half of the final inning to push the Dawgs ahead 3-1. Chris Shaw was called on from the pen, by Dawg’s coach Marc Deschenes, to secure the win and did just that as he forced a game ending doubleplay ball hit to shortshop Nick Murray.
Accodates must be passed around the horn to the whole Dawg’s lineup. Conor Murray continued to swing a scorching hot bat and Logan Bonnell was a force on the bases and at the plate. Justin Silvestro had a big hit as well. Jason Tzannes and Matthew Sharma were both solid defensively. Tzannes made a couple huge plays around the bag at second and Sharma tracked numerous flyball to his right and left.
Congratulations to both finalists, as well as all that participated in 2009 on a successful tournament.
